Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumour of the testis

Epidemiology

This is a rare tumour. The mean age at diagnosis is 21 years.

Clinical features

There is an association with Carney's syndrome, lentigines and myxomas.

Histopathology

Tumour cells are large with abundant eosinophilic granular cytoplasm (resembling Leydig cells). Calcification may be psammomatous, dystrophic-appearing to confluent with ossification. Calcification may be reduced/absent in metastases.

Charcot-Böttcher filaments may be present.

Differential diagnosis

Prognosis

175 of cases show malignant behaviour. Those associated with Carney's syndrome are usually benign.
