MPT64

The ZN tinctorial stain has a low sensitivity for acid fast bacilli. Immunohistochemistry using antiBCG also lacks sensitivity. A polyclonal rabbit antibody against the MPT64 mycobacterial antigen has a promise of greater sensitivity1. Specificity is improved by absorbing the antiserum against a strain of BCG that does not produce MPT64. In this study, cases of proven and suspected tuberculous lymphadenitis and various non-tuberculous lymph nodes were tested. There was a good correlation for positivity by immunohistochemistry and by PCR1. The antibody used was prepared in house.
