Multicystic mesothelioma

Multicystic / multilocular inclusion cyst, benign multicystic mesothelial proliferation

Epidemiology

These lesions most commonly occur in the peritoneum of premenopausal women, but may also be found in the pleura.

Macroscopic appearances

There are multiple thin-walled cysts forming a multilocular mass. Some cysts may be free-floating.

Histopathology

The mesothelial cells lack cytological atypia.

Prognosis

Some patients later develop diffuse malignant mesothelioma.
