Cancer-associated carbohydrates

These carbohydrates can be detected by monoclonal antibodies on the surface of tumour cells.  They are the result of the accumulation of precursor molecules due to decreased synthetic enzyme activity in tumours or due to aberrant glycosylation.  This group of carbohydrates include CA 15.3, CA 19.9, CA 50, CA 125, CA 242, MCA, SLEX, B72.3 and CEA.
